Located on a beautiful island in the Jao Concession on the Moremi Game Reserve, Jacana Camp is a typical Delta camp. Surrounded by seasonally-inundated floodplains and papyrus swamps, Jacana Camp has five en-suite Meru-style tents, including a family tent, built on raised wooden decks to facilitate its panoramic views of the Okavango Delta.
Jao Concession is a true wetland area, ideal for the rare sitatunga and abundant red lechwe. In the summer months when the inundation has receded, lechwe, tsessebe and elephant are prevalent, while lion, and occasionally leopard, may be seen. Wildlife concentrations in this area of the Delta depend on water flow and volume, changing from season too season. Birdlife is abundant; enthusiasts can spot Pel’s fishing-owl as well as African and lesser jacanas and other Okavango specials such as slaty egret and African pygmy-goose.
The main dining area at Jacana Camp is on an elevated platform between two magnificent sycamore fig trees and surrounded by dense wild date palms. Jacana Camp also has a cosy lounge with an area for an open fire under the stars; and a plunge pool for cooling off in the midday sun.
Being a water camp, Jacana Camp offers primarily water activities such as Mokoro & Boating Excursions, with also having the opportunity to go fishing. Game drives are available during the summer months dependent on water levels and time of year.
A water wonderland.
